It is the race to develop safeguards before AI capabilities outrun them.<\/p>\n<div class=\"teaser-content\">\n<div class=\"wpds-c-PJLV article-body type-text\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p class=\"wpds-c-heFNVF wpds-c-heFNVF-iPJLV-css overrideStyles font-copy\" dir=\"null\" data-apitype=\"text\" data-contentid=\"XLAJNLIUTRA45NWCBFDF3MTGRA\" data-el=\"text\">The U.S. cannot and should not abandon the AI race. Nor should it allow China to set the rules for the world\u2019s most important technology. But Washington and Beijing need to recognize that they face shared risks and vulnerabilities, and act accordingly.
